Katakana is one of the three main scripts in the Japanese writing system, used primarily for transcribing foreign words, names, loanwords, and onomatopoeia. Recognized by its angular characters, Katakana represents specific syllables, making it a phonetic script. For instance, "computer" is written as コンピュータ (konpyūta).
